Wardrobe Staples For Students On A Budget

Being a student is not easy – between rent, food, alcohol and nights out there’s usually not enough money left for a bit of cheeky shopping. Plus, is that pair of jeans you bought last year still appropriate for both nights out and lectures? And how are you going to pair that little crop top you bought last month in the Topshop sale?

I’ve noticed that I love clothes too much and I often do impulsive purchases – but how are those going to work out with the rest of my clothes?

Luckily I’ve managed to write down a list of wardrobe staples every student should always have in their wardrobe.

  1. Black Jeans
It’s basically impossible to go wrong with a nice pair of black jeans. As we know, black goes with everything (and it makes you look thinner too, if I do say so myself). I basically live in black jeans during winter time and I think I own one too many pairs.
  2. Denim Jacket
Denim is like the colour black: it goes with absolutely everything. And who cares about the double denim, it’s back in style anyways.
  3. Black Heels
As much as I love shoes, 90% of the ones I own are black. So why not get a nice and durable pair of black heels and use those? The rest of the ones I have that are not black have probably never seen the daylight.
  4. The Perfect Jeans
Whether you prefer a pair of mom jeans or a boyfriend cut, everyone has the perfect pair of jeans. That one pair that makes you (and your bum) look incredible every time you wear it.
  5. Great Sunglasses
Whatever the colour, your life changes the second you invest in a great pair of sunglasses.
  6. Ankle Boots
I absolutely adore ankle boots – they are pretty much the only shoes I wear in Autumn and Winter.
  7. LBD
In case you’re not familiar with this, LBD stands for Little Black Dress (and no, I’m not talking about that One Direction’s song!)
This is an absolute must have in your wardrobe. Perfect for both casual and nights out.
  8. White Tee
The white tee is a bit like the black tee. Must have basics that will pretty much go with anything you’re wearing.
  9. Striped Tee
It wouldn’t be a wardrobe staples without at least one striped piece of clothing (or, in my case, at least 50). I am in love with stripes and I wear them all the time.
  10. Leather Jacket
Whether it’s faux or real, a black leather jacket will make your whole outfit ten times better – trust me.

The trick is to choose pieces of clothing you can easily pair with your staples and re-use for different occasions. It’s surely not easy being on a budget, however it’s fairly manageable.
